Celebrating Our Volunteers: The Heart and Soul of Meals on Wheels

April is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on the heart and soul of Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud - the incredible volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to our mission. With April’s Volunteer Appreciation Week just around the corner (April 22 - 26), we are excited to honor and celebrate the dedication, care, and community impact that our volunteers contribute every day.

It takes a team of volunteers to help prepare all of the meals for daily deliveries.

Dedicated Volunteers Making a Difference

Our volunteers play a multitude of vital roles within our organization - from assisting with food prep in the kitsch to delivering meals to managing administrative tasks in the office. Each role is crucial, ensuring that more people in our community are fed, nourished, and cared for. Our volunteers are literally the driving force behind the Meals on Wheels mission to enrich the lives of homebound and aging adults.

Stories From The Heart

Our volunteers are not just the backbone of Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud - they are its beating heart. Each day, they bring more than just meals to our clients - they bring warmth, companionship, and a personal connection that turns a simple service into a lifeline.

Our volunteers share touching stories about our clients every day. Their stories illustrate the profound impact of their commitment on the lives of the aging and homebound adults we serve. These narratives showcase the deep personal connections that have been formed and highlight how every meal delivered is always more than just food. Narratives like those from:

Mitch Rogers is a volunteer meal delivery driver and a member of the MOWLB Board of Directors.

  • Dolly Halverson, who has been a volunteer and cornerstone of our community for nearly 20 years. Volunteering on Route 15, Dolly considers the clients she serves as part of her extended family. Her unwavering commitment and heartfelt interactions remind us all of the deep connections that Meals on Wheels fosters within our community.

  • Mitch Rogers, a volunteer driver and MOWLB board member, who has brought his passion for service into his professional life as well. Mitch initiated a corporate volunteer driving team through his State Farm business. This has helped enhance our outreach and impact. Mitch’s favorite moments include the smiles and heartfelt thanks he receives from the clients, a true testament to the joy and appreciation our services bring.

  • Levi Wilson, who has been a volunteer driver with Meals on Wheels in both Indiana, where he previously lived, and Loveland and Berthoud for about 12 years. Levi’s commitment goes beyond the road - he’s passionate about spreading awareness of our services to ensure that no potential client goes unserved. His dedication is an inspiration for community engagement and shows the power of volunteerism.

Levi and his family moved to Northern Colorado from Indiana where he was also a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

A Call To Action

As we celebrate these stories of extraordinary commitment, we are reminded of the critical role each volunteer plays in our organization. Whether they are delivering meals, sharing stories, or spreading the word, our volunteers embody the spirit of community and compassion.
