How to Make Your Legacy Gift

Creating a legacy gift is a simple way to ensure that homebound older adults and individuals with disabilities continue to receive nutritious meals, safety checks, and meaningful human connection for years to come. Follow these steps to make a gift through your will:

1. Decide on Your Gift
Choose what you want to give, whether it is a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, a remainder of your estate, or other assets such as stocks, real estate, or retirement accounts.

2. Name Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud as Beneficiary
Be sure to use our full legal name and, if possible, include our Tax ID number to avoid confusion.

3. Work with an Estate Planning Professional
An attorney or financial advisor can help ensure your gift is legally sound, aligns with your wishes, and takes advantage of any potential tax benefits.

4. Include Clear Language in Your Will
Example phrasing:
"I give [amount or percentage] of my estate to Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud, a nonprofit organization located in Loveland, Colorado, Tax ID [insert number], for its general use and purposes."

5. Notify Us (Optional but Encouraged)
Letting us know about your legacy gift allows you to join our Continuing Care Circle, receive updates on your impact, and have the opportunity to shape your gift according to your wishes. Email jeffrey@lovelandmealsonwheels.org.

6. Review Your Will Periodically

Life changes, so revisiting your will ensure that your legacy gift continues to reflect your intentions.

7. Explore Additional Planned Giving Options
You may also consider retirement account designations, charitable gift annuities, or trusts to maximize your impact while supporting your financial goals. Talk these over with an estate planning professional.

By including Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud in your estate plans, you help ensure that no older adult in our community faces hunger or isolation alone. Your legacy can nourish lives and support independence for years to come.
