From Service to Service - Meet MOWLB Intern, Tommy!

Welcoming Tommy Irving to our team: a veteran’s mission to serve

Joining us at Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud (MOWLB) is Tommy Irving, a name you’ll want to remember! Tommy, a proud veteran, is on a mission, fueled by his studies in Social Work at Colorado State University. He has a deep desire to help others transition from military to civilian life.

WHY MOWLB?

Tommy’s passion for service didn’t halt with his military career. Drawn to the mission of Meals on Wheels, he saw an opportunity to extend his service to the community - especially to those facing daily challenges. His belief? Food isn’t just sustenance - it’s a vessel for joy and a connector of people.

THE POWER OF A MEAL: MORE THAN JUST NUTRITION

Each day at MOWLB brings Tommy face-to-face with the people we serve, teaching him invaluable lessons about compassion, community, and care. From answering calls to making deliveries, he witnesses the organization’s critical role in breaking barriers of social isolation, ensuring home safety, and providing nutritional security.

A SMILE THAT TELLS A STORY

Some of the most memorable and meaningful moments for Tommy come from participating in the meal deliveries. The smiles, the warm welcomes, the profound gratitude - all serve as vivid reminders of the difference he and the organization are making. These interactions are not just transactions of food - they’re exchanges of hope and reminders of community support.

Carrying the Lessons forward

The experiences at MOWLB are shaping Tommy, arming him with knowledge and empathy that he plans to carry forward in his career. With every client interaction, he is reminded of the tangible impact of MOWLB’s work. MOWLB does more than just provide food - it bridges the gap and creates a vast difference in people’s lives.

A MUTUAL JOURNEY OF GROWTH AND SERVICE

Tommy will be working with the MOWLB team through early December, after which he will finish his studies and graduate. Working with Tommy for a few weeks now, it is clear that luck has been in our team’s favor. Tommy’s presence on the MOWLB team has been a blessing. His dedication is a vivid illustration of how reciprocal the journey of service truly is. While Tommy gains hands-on experience, MOWLB reaps the rewards of his thoughtful, compassionate approach to service. His unique perspective enriches the MOWLB team, and enhances our ability to reach further, and strengthens our connections with those we serve.

Looking ahead, we are excited to see the paths that Tommy will pave in the field of social work. His future is undoubtedly bright, and the impact he will continue to have on our greater community is immeasurable. We at MOWLB are forever grateful for his contributions and are proud of the impact he has had on both our mission and the people we serve.
